Mussorgsky's much-loved Pictures at an Exhibion, is a musical stroll around a gallery, to be heard in this performance in the brilliant orchestration by Ravel. The orchestra is joined for Ravel's jazz-inspired piano concerto by highly regarded pianist Alasdair Beatson and the concert also includes Tchaikovsky's imaginative portrayal of the drama and romance of Shakespeare's The Tempest. A celebration! Opening the concert is the orchestra's commission from our Composition Competition winner Alex Symcox. Anna Kashefi performs the Cello Concerto by Walton, a work imbued with the warmth and serenity of his Mediterranean island home, and the concert closes with Brahms in the playful and radiant mood of his second symphony.
