Dvořák's evocative telling of the noon witch story opens the concert. Mark van de Wiel, one of the UK's leading clarinettists performs Weber's eloquent Concerto no.1 and the evening concludes with Elgar's Second Symphony. Revealing of Elgar the man and his innermost feelings, this symphony includes one of the finest and most elegiac of all orchestral funeral marches. More details...

Mussorgky's much-loved Pictures at an Exhibion, is a musical stroll around a gallery, to be heard in this performance in the brilliant orchestration by Ravel. The orchestra is joined for Ravel's jazz-inspired piano concerto by highly regarded pianist Alasdair Beatson and the concert also includes Tchaikovsky's imaginative portrayal of the drama and romance of Shakespeare's The Tempest.
